Two teenagers who died following a crash involving a car and a tractor in Co Mayo on Friday evening have been named.
James Daniels (13) and Harry Fagan (19) were killed when the car in which they were travelling collided with a tractor.
James was on his way to a local soccer match in Cloonfad when the crash occurred on the N83 in the townland of Lavallyroe shortly after 8pm.
A third teenager, the driver of the car, was seriously injured and is being treated at Mayo University Hospital. The driver of the tractor, a man in his 50s, was hospitalised with non-life threatening injuries.
Alma Gallagher, a member of Mayo County Council, has described the deaths of the two young men and the injuries sustained by the survivors of the impact as “devastating”.
She described James and Harry as “well known and much loved in their communities with bright futures ahead of them”.
“My deepest condolences to both families who I know so well and their many friends,” Cllr Gallagher said.
In a statement on social media, Cloonfad United football club said James was a member of their under-14 squad while Harry played for Cloonfad “all the way through our underage programme”. “Our hearts are broken for both families and we send our prayers and support to the Daniels, Cunniffe, Fagan, Moran and Reinhardt families,” the club said.

James’s remains will be brought from St Patrick’s Church, Cloonfad, to Shannon for cremation following Requiem Mass at 12pm on Tuesday. The removal will be held at PJ Keane Funeral Home on Monday.
Harry’s funeral will take place at 12pm on Wednesday at St Patrick’s Church, Cloonfad with burial afterwards in Cloonfad Cemetery.
After gardaí completed a forensic investigation of the crash scene, the vehicles involved in the impact were removed from the scene of the collision this afternoon.
